FOR the first time the Australian Reigned Cow Horse Association (ARCHA) is coming to Scone to host their ‘Wideland Motor Group’s Pot of Gold’ event this weekend August 10 and 11.

The two day event will showcase a range of exciting cow horse competitions including reining, cutting, boxing and the famous down-the-fence advanced boxing event.

ARCHA organisers said they were blown away by the new White Park facilities at Scone, swooping in to book the arena for their first show of the season.

Jay Gordon, president of ARCHA and certified judge said the association wants to make it an annual event.

“The aim is that every year people will know ‘this is where the Pot of Gold is’, in Scone,” said Jay Gordon.

“We thought, where can we go that truly involves the community and where this event will be recognised and appreciated, and then we found White Park,” he said.

The crowd will see cow horses and their owners demonstrate skill sets used in the real world, for mustering cattle.

The event is expected to draw cowboy and cow horse lovers from throughout Australia, straight to the Horse Capital.

“It gives people that are a little further south a chance to attend and it’s also not too far for people wanting to come down from Queensland,” said Jay Gordon.

“We want to contribute to the town of Scone because of the people that will come through to this event will hopefully help local business as well,” he said.

The Wideland Motor Group’s Pot of Gold has more than $6,000 worth of cash and prizes to be won during the weekend.

ARCHA have re-energised their industry over the past year, adding ten specially trained certified judges to their Australian association.

“We are the only organisation in Australia where our cow horse judges are not only certified in Australia, but are also world recognised and certified by the world governing body, the National Reigned Cow Horse Association NRCHA(US),” said Jay Gordon.

The weekend is not all about the competitors though.

The Wideland Motor Group’s Pot of Gold will be jam packed with activities for kids, trade stands to browse and a delicious beer garden.

“It’s really a great event for everyone, not only for the competitors but for the spectators because it’s so thrilling to watch from the sidelines,” said Jay Gordon.

“The build-up to watching someone go down the fence and the suspense of seeing what that horse can do with that cow makes it’s very exciting to watch,” he said.

“These horses are athletes, it’s all about how well the horse can control the cow and Scone has built a beautiful facility, we can’t wait to use it, ” said Jay Gordon.
